　　DECIMALS, FRACTIONS AND QUANTITY 小数分数数量

　　1.DECIMALS 小数

　　在英语里，小数点是point例如：

　　7.2读作seven point two ‘

　　.5读作point five

　　第二个例子也可以用0.5来表示，读作 nought point five

　　小数在统计材料中用得最多。例如：

　　The workers received a 6.5% increase in salary.

　　在报告体育成绩的时候也用得很多。例如：

　　The Australian runner; Raelene Boyle, ran 400 metres in 51.26 seconds.

　　请注意，小数点后面的数字换个位数字分开读。例如：

　　31.36 seconds thirty one point three six seconds.

　　506.819 five hundred and six point eight one nine.

　　2.FRACTIONS 分数

　　a) A half (1/2)

　　half 这个词，一般要加冠词。例如：

　　a half

　　one and a half

　　然而，如果表明某件东西的一半，通常不加冠词。例如：

　　half an hour

　　half (of) the job

　　half (of) my time

　　half of it/them

　　小数.5也可以用分数1/2来表示。

　　表示时间，可以说half past four等。

　　b)A quarter (1/4)

　　我们说a quarter of an hour

　　a quarter of it

　　a quarter of the book

　　表示时间，可以说a quarter past three 等。

　　c)其他分数举例

　　a third of my time

　　three fifths of the job

　　注意：

　　我们通常说a third, a fifth 等，但有时为了强调，也可以说one third 或one fifth。比如，在对比两个数字的时候，就一定要用one,而不用a:

　　Do you want one third or two thirds?

　　在读分数的时候，除了1/2(a half)和1/4(a quarter)以外，用基数词(one, two, three等)读分子，用充数词(third, fifth, sixth等)读分母。例如：

　　1/3=a third

　　=one third

　　2/3=two thirds

　　1/8=an eight

　　=one eight

　　3/8=three eights

　　3.A QUANTITRR FOR A PARTICULAR PURPOSE一定的数量

　　a)在广播里，Norm说道：

　　When I retire we can think about it if we've got enough money.

　　后半句话提出了一个条件，意思是如果他们有足够的钱，就可以考虑去旅行。+所谓“足够的钱”，是针对一定的目的而言的，在这里指的就是“去旅行”。下面再举几个例子：

　　I've got ENOUGH paint TO do the ceiling.

　　He caught ENOUGH fish FOR everyone.

　　There's ENOUGH paper TO write a letter.

　　如果enough所修饰的名词是可数名词，则要用复数形式。例如：

　　I've got enough books for everyone.

　　There are enough bananas for the whole family.

　　b) Plenty (of)的意思是“充足的”、“很多的”。例如：

　　There's PLENTY OF time FOR us to finish the job.

　　I've had PLENTY(OF food), thanks.
