　　SPECULATING (Ⅳ)- UNREAL CONDITIONS IN THE FUTURE/PRESENT推测(Ⅳ)一现在或将来与事实

　　相反的条件句在第40讲里，我们学了有可能实现的条件句。这一讲，我们要学习现在或将来与事实相反的条件甸，这指的是不可能或不大可能发生的事情，和纯粹假定的情况。现任或将来与事实相反的条件句也由两部分构成：主句和if引导的从句。其时态是：从句一过去时主句

　　would(简略为'd)从句型用过去时，并小是指过去。它只说明这件串在现在或将来是与事实相反的，或是不大可能发生的。句子的结构如下:

　　从句 IF+PAST tense

　　+

　　主句 would/'d

　　IF I was younger,I'd learn a musical instrument.

　　IF I had my time again, I'd be an astronaut.

　　在上面这两个例子里，从句所说的事情都是不可能发生的。

　　在以下这两个例子里，从句所说的事情不是完全不可能做到的，然而是不会发生的。从第一句话的时态就可以看出，说话的人是不会嫁给一个飞行员的。

　　IF I married a pilot,I'd never see him.

　　IF I lived near the city,I'd never be late for work.

　　注意：

　　在否定句里，would要变成wouldn't。

　　If I lived near the city,I wouldn't be late for work.

　　If he left school now, he wouldn't get a good job.

　　如果主甸要表示做某件事的能力，就不用would，而用could*。例如：

　　If you sold your old machines,you could afford new ones.

　　If I knew her phone number, I could ring her up.

　　*(could=would be able to)

　　介绍两个常用的短语：

　　1.I WOULD IF I COULD

　　A: Why don't you visit China?

　　B: would if I could.

　　(=I would go if I could go.)

　　2.IF I WERE YOU

　　If,were you, I'd get a loan from the bank.

　　这个短语常常用来给别人出主意。请注意，在这个固定的短语里，通常不说if I was，而说if I were。

　　在这一讲里，你将会听到一支歌，歌词是：

　　If I were a blackbird, I'd whistle and sing....

　　(假如我息一只乌鸫鸟，我要歌唱，还要吹口哨……)

　　第四部分：练习

　　将括号里的动词以适当的时态填在空白处。

　　1. If you....(go) to Sydney, you'd have a very interesting time.

　　2. I'd prefer it if you....(visit) me at the weekend.

　　3. If Barbara….(live) in China, she could read the China Daily.

　　4. I'd move to the country if I.... (be) you.

　　5. If I....(have) the time, I'd learn another language.

　　6. I'd buy a farm if I....(can).
