  SECTION B INTERVIEW 10分

听力原文

  [00:24.65]In this section

  [00:25.76]you will hear ONE interview.

  [00:28.04]The interview

[00:28.73]will be divided into TWO parts.

[00:30.94]At the end of each part,

  [00:32.86]five questions will be asked

  [00:34.54]about what was said.

  [00:36.26]Both the interview

  [00:37.41]and the questions

  [00:38.43]will be spoken ONCE ONLY.

  [00:41.13]After each question

  [00:42.70]there will be a ten-second pause.

  [00:45.72]During the pause,

[00:46.87]you should read the four choices

  [00:48.80]of A, B, C and D,

  [00:51.52]and mark the best answer

  [00:53.19]to each question

  [00:54.51]on ANSWER SHEET TWO.

  [00:56.96]You have THIRTY seconds

  [00:58.30]to preview the questions.

  [01:30.08]Now, listen to Part One

  [01:31.57]of the interview.

  [01:33.13]Questions 1 to 5 are based on

  [01:35.25]Part One of the interview.

  [01:38.10]W: Welcome to

  [01:38.47]our program

  [01:39.55]Technology & Innovations.

[01:41.87]First, please allow me to ask you

  [01:44.27]a question:

  [01:44.83]when you apply sunscreen

  [01:46.87]to your face,

  [01:48.25]have you ever found yourself

  [01:49.77]wondering

  [01:50.72]if the lotion is safe?

  [01:52.27]If your answer is "yes",

  [01:54.15]what will you do?

  [01:55.39]Will you search the Internet

  [01:57.26]for help?

  [01:57.93]Are there any websites

  [01:59.97]providing readily available answers

[02:02.05]to tell the safety of one product

  [02:04.12]or another?

  [02:04.96]Today,

  [02:05.99]we have invited Dara O'Rourke,

  [02:08.32]a professor of environmental

  [02:10.14]and labor policy

  [02:11.64]at the University of California,

  [02:13.94]Berkeley, to share his solution

  [02:16.31]to this delicate issue.

  [02:18.13]M: Thank you Maria.

[02:19.74]The case you mentioned just now

  [02:22.00]often took place

[02:22.78]in my daily life as well.

  [02:24.87]And that was

[02:25.54]why I began to build GoodGuide.

[02:29.03]W: Could you tell us more about it?

  [02:30.82]M: Well,

  [02:31.97]GoodGuide was founded in 2007.

[02:34.92]It is a website and smartphone app

  [02:37.47]that rates

  [02:38.01]140,000 consumer products

  [02:40.79]in the US,

  [02:41.64]according to their safety,

  [02:43.87]environmental sustainability

[02:45.61]and the ethics of the firms

  [02:47.47]that make them.

  [02:48.48]W: Sounds quite helpful especially

  [02:50.42]in times of electronic commerce.

  [02:53.18]But considering the amount

[02:55.17]of the products you have to rate,

[02:56.99]I suppose it must be a hard work.

  [03:00.12]M: Yes,

  [03:01.06]but my own worries

  [03:02.15]about the safety

  [03:02.93]of a product triggered off

  [03:04.99]my devotion to this app.

[03:06.40]Together with a team of chemists,

  [03:08.19]lots of testing

[03:09.21]and a chunk of venture capital later,

[03:11.79]I spent more than two years

  [03:13.81]on building this website

  [03:15.16]to offer consumers practical advice

  [03:18.18]on what to buy

  [03:18.90]and not to buy.

  [03:20.56]W: That is really impressive.

[03:22.77]I bet it has gained lots of users so far.

[03:25.82]M: Yes. It is quite popular

  [03:27.84]all over our country.

[03:29.80]W: Who are the greatest users

  [03:31.12]of GoodGuide?

  [03:32.61]M: So far, GoodGuide

[03:34.30]has mostly been used by shoppers

[03:36.30]who are already keen to know

  [03:38.39]about any issues connected with

  [03:40.50]products they buy.

  [03:42.05]W: Could you give us

  [03:42.82]some specific examples?

  [03:44.80]M: Sure. For example,

  [03:46.61]there are mothers

  [03:47.76]who are concerned

  [03:48.70]about their children's health,

  [03:50.12]older people

  [03:50.71]who face chronic illnesses

  [03:52.26]or supporters of a cause,

  [03:54.64]such as animal rights.

  [03:56.80]W: I see.

[03:57.63]M: The hope behind the app is

[04:00.07]that the idea of finding out

  [04:01.94]about a product's background

  [04:03.55]will become the mainstream.

[04:05.57]W: Have you made any upgrades

  [04:07.55]or service expansion

  [04:09.22]since GoodGuide was founded?

  [04:11.31]M: Of course.

  [04:12.78]Now GoodGuide

  [04:14.42]has launched an online service

  [04:16.47]called The Purchase Analyzer.

[04:18.55]It is designed to inform consumers

  [04:21.20]not just

  [04:21.99]about the values embedded

  [04:23.45]in products, but also

  [04:25.09]about whether they are

  [04:26.87]the virtuous shoppers

[04:28.07]they say they want to be.

  [04:30.09]W: Could you show us

  [04:30.93]how to use the service?

[04:32.66]M: Yes, to use the new service,

  [04:35.23]users need to create

  [04:36.66]a GoodGuide account,

  [04:38.14]set up a filter

  [04:39.11]to make purchase decisions

[04:40.79]based on issues they care about,

  [04:42.98]which can range from

  [04:44.48]whether the user

  [04:45.48]favors organic products

  [04:46.93]to buying only from firms

  [04:48.69]with a good human-rights record,

  [04:50.82]and then sync their accounts

  [04:52.61]from different shopping sites

  [04:54.34]so that GoodGuide

  [04:55.39]can rate their purchases.

  [04:57.24]When the customer

[04:58.77]scans the bar code on a product

[05:00.86]with the camera in their smartphone,

[05:03.06]the app identifies it and checks

[05:06.05]in a database to score how it shapes up.

  [05:09.66]This is the end

[05:10.59]of Part One of the interview.

  [05:12.99]Questions 1 to 5 are based on

  [05:15.07]what you have just heard.

[05:17.92]1. What is this interview mainly about?

  [05:32.06]2. According to the interview,

  [05:34.83]what caused the man

  [05:36.30]to build GoodGuide?

  [05:48.09]3. According to the interview,

  [05:50.58]who of the following are

  [05:52.76]among the greatest users

  [05:54.09]of GoodGuide?

  [06:05.57]4. Why did GoodGuide launch

  [06:08.35]The Purchase Analyzer?

[06:20.11]5. How do customers get information

  [06:23.15]about products via GoodGuide?

  [06:35.78]Now, listen to Part Two

  [06:37.18]of the interview.

  [06:38.68]Questions 6 to 10 are based on

  [06:40.63]Part Two of the interview.

[06:43.49]W: I see. The first step

  [06:45.53]is simple enough,

  [06:46.78]but could you give us

[06:47.80]an example of setting up the filter?

[06:50.21]M: Yes. Some of the sample filters

  [06:52.79]include Fragrance-free,

  [06:54.52]Climate Change, Animal Welfare

  [06:57.09]and Ingredient Safety—

  [06:58.98]so you can filter based

  [07:00.63]on your most pressing concerns.

  [07:02.73]If you're primarily worried

  [07:04.79]about the impact a product

  [07:06.58]has on the planet,

[07:07.53]you can filter by Climate Change,

  [07:09.94]or if you are looking

  [07:11.62]for beauty products

  [07:12.67]that have not been tested

  [07:13.96]on animals,

  [07:14.64]check Animal Welfare.

[07:16.92]W: What if the product that

  [07:18.87]the customer scans scores badly?

[07:21.71]M: If the product scores badly,

  [07:23.55]the app will recommend

  [07:24.83]an alternative item

  [07:25.95]that is better for you,

  [07:27.48]your family,

  [07:28.19]your wallet,

  [07:28.97]and our world.

[07:30.69]W: Wow, it is just like

  [07:32.17]a green personal assistant.

  [07:34.11]M: Yes. Besides,

  [07:36.13]the app tracks consumers'

  [07:37.80]purchases to see how well

  [07:39.76]they fit

  [07:40.38]with their selected values

  [07:41.51]and gives a sort

  [07:42.48]of personal virtue rating.

  [07:44.51]We hope, in this way,

  [07:46.54]the shopper can consume

  [07:47.83]more thoughtfully.

[07:48.91]Our goal is to help consumers

  [07:51.15]make informed purchasing

  [07:52.73]decisions

  [07:53.60]that reflect their preferences

  [07:55.35]and values.

  [07:56.59]We believe that

  [07:57.88]as more consumers buy

  [07:59.10]better products, retailers

  [08:01.18]and manufacturers face

  [08:02.39]compelling incentives

  [08:03.62]to make products

  [08:04.81]that are safe,

  [08:05.81]environmentally sustainable

  [08:07.89]and produced

  [08:08.93]using ethical sourcing

  [08:10.32]of raw materials and labor.

[08:12.95]W: But in my opinion consumers

  [08:15.65]rarely change their buying habits,

  [08:18.01]even when confronted

  [08:19.28]with scientific and other data.

  [08:21.30]M: Yes.

[08:22.34]That is why we have drawn

  [08:23.96]on insights

  [08:24.87]from behavioral economics,

  [08:26.40]which show shoppers

  [08:27.96]can be greatly

  [08:28.96]influenced by peer pressure

  [08:30.52]and by information passed on

[08:32.47]to them by people they know.

[08:34.79]The app tries to take advantage

  [08:36.58]of these pressures.

[08:38.04]W: Em, that makes some sense

[08:40.10]but how do you put the idea

  [08:41.88]into practice?

  [08:43.53]M: The virtue rating

[08:44.53]will inform a consumer how well

  [08:46.42]they are doing

  [08:47.18]according to the values

  [08:49.09]which they espouse.

  [08:50.67]That measurement gives

  [08:51.86]an incentive to do better.

[08:53.86]Soon, the rating will be able to

  [08:56.00]be shared with others

  [08:56.90]on social-media sites

  [08:58.88]such as Facebook,

  [09:00.31]which could inspire shoppers

  [09:01.91]to consume more thoughtfully.

[09:04.15]W: I see. It sounds reasonable.

[09:07.03]And do you have any future plans

  [09:08.80]for this wonderful app?

[09:11.27]M: I am sorry to say

  [09:12.27]that this is a secret

  [09:13.86]but I can expose a little.

[09:16.09]In fact we are planning to turn

  [09:18.37]being a good shopper

  [09:19.36]into an online game

  [09:21.20]in the near future.

  [09:22.72]W: So that GoodGuide

  [09:23.98]can appeal to

  [09:24.81]the younger generation?

  [09:26.07]M: You are quite insightful!

  [09:27.62]The younger generation

  [09:29.09]does need some guidance

  [09:30.41]when shopping,

  [09:31.64]but they also need fun.

  [09:33.64]W: Yes. And they are

  [09:35.45]endowed with strong

  [09:36.19]purchasing power as well.

  [09:38.27]One more question:

  [09:39.71]do you intend to

  [09:40.50]include information

  [09:41.71]about foreign goods

[09:43.27]in this app in the future?

  [09:44.86]M: Definitely.

[09:45.81]But that is a huge project

  [09:47.77]and we need more time

  [09:49.09]to expand and improve.

  [09:51.15]W: Well, Mr. O'Rourke,

  [09:52.62]thank you very much

  [09:53.65]for staying with us today.

  [09:55.86]M: My pleasure.

  [09:58.11]This is the end

[09:58.95]of Part Two of the interview.

  [10:01.28]Questions 6 to 10 are based on

  [10:03.36]what you have just heard.

[10:05.89]6. Which filter should you choose

  [10:09.37]if you are worried

  [10:10.33]about the impact a product

  [10:11.89]has on the planet?

[10:23.49]7. What will the app do

  [10:26.01]if the product

  [10:26.97]the customer scans scores badly?

[10:39.56]8. Why does the app give

  [10:42.09]a personal virtue rating?

[10:54.00]9. What is the theory the man

  [10:56.90]applied to change customers'

  [10:58.59]buying habits?

  [11:09.87]10. What does GoodGuide plan

[11:12.76]to do in the near future?
